Objective 19

"Good girl," John murmured, heaving himself up from his chair to the saddle, patting the mare to tell her it was alright to get up again. He wasn't entirely sure what Gypsy's trainers would think when they found out he'd be teaching the mare new tricks, but honestly, the thought didn't bother him too much - mostly, because he tried to keep the fact that this beautiful, kind mare really wasn't his out of the forefront of his mind. Besides, it wasn't like he would risk it to get on her back any other way; last time he'd tried, his arm had failed him halfway through, and next thing he knew his arse was on the floor and the mare was staring at him with such a puzzled expression that he'd burst out laughing. Now that he thought of it, it hadn't been that terrible of an experience.

Picking up the reins - if a couple of lead ropes attached to her halter could be labelled as such - he clicked his tongue, leading the mare off and through the arch of branches that marked the entrance of the stable area. Each time he gave it some thought, he always managed to be amazed at just how far he'd come - how far the both of them had. This was nothing like their first clumsy, hesitant rides together. "What should we do today, girl? I was thinking we could take the windmill path. Or maybe just do some work in the --" The mare's alert expression gave him pause, and he instantly shortened the reins, regaining the control he normally let Gypsy have. He looked up only moments later, blinking a good few times when he saw just what had caught her attention. He rubbed his eyes, before blinking again.

"John. No greeting? Are you really that surprised?" John felt his heart skip a beat at the smile Sandra gave him, briefly wondering just when it was that he'd been reduced to a blushing teenager girl, before letting out a quiet chuckle, running a hand through his hair. "Sandra. Hi. What are you doing here? You never told me you had a horse," he said, nodding towards her chestnut mount, which was currently politely inspecting the mare.

"You never asked," she replied simply, shrugging. Seeing John still seemed to be in shock, she rolled her eyes, nudging D'amour forward until the horses were side by side. Taking hold of John's shirt, she pulled him down until their lips connected in a greeting kiss, grinning as she let him go. "Aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at the mare. John smiled widely, leaning forward to pat her dappled neck. "Why, are you jealous?"

"Should I be?"

John laughed. "Gypsy, this is Sandra. Sandra, Gypsy. You better like each other, because I've absolutely fallen for the both of you." He looked away for a moment, not quickly enough for Sandra to miss the light blush dusting his cheeks, before turning, nodding to the path that would take them to the trails. "Care to join me, milady?" he asked, not bothering to wait for a reply as he nudged the mare onwards, looking at Sandra over his shoulder. "So, how many other secrets are you hiding from me? Are you secretly a juggler?"

Sandra was silent for a few moments, blinking in genuine confusion, before she burst out laughing. "You are ridiculous."

I've had this painting ready to post for what feels like ages, but only really got around to working on the text today. I figured working the Equine Therapy objectives around my storyline would be a good idea. I'm doing them in such a ridiculous order...

Oh and look, it's Percy!

PERCY!!!! :iconepiclaplz:

Beyond that, this is totally adorable, though! I love the rich colours you use and how they give your stable such a homey feel. The interaction between the characters is lovely "Why, are you jealous?" :aww: and the horses - I love these horses. Gypsy is just such a beautiful colour but for some reason I especially like her here; the head shape and dapples along with the pink bit on her muzzle...I just adore how it all came out. And then she's in a headcollar! Perfect touch. And that chestnut's so shiny :D The level mane and yellow bandages are really cute on him :)

Love this, basically :D
